Sylvia Lafontaine writes: I am so happy to share on behalf of the Stonewall Community Centre that our 2nd Annual Our Family Dinner had 8 people in attendance this season.
The Stonewall Community Centre is a safe and inclusive space for the 2SLGBTQ community in the Hamilton Region.
Our Family Dinner is one of the events we host each year because a large majority of members, especially older members of the 2SLGBTQ community are very isolated during the holiday season as they have no one to spend it with.
Often times they are not welcome for family gatherings if they bring their partner or feel uncomfortable to share they have a partner. Others may not have a partner, or children and therefore will have no grandchildren. Older members will no longer have parents as the have passed.
As such, we wanted to put on a traditional family dinner for those who would otherwise be alone.
I am so happy to share that we had 8 people come for dinner.
I also want to say a big thank you to Kelly, Nancy, Gail and Lea for their help in putting on our dinner.
A lovely time was had by all.
