Labour Day Sunday “Making It Work: Black Labour in Story and Song”

On Labour Day, we celebrate the “Labour Movement,” the primary focus being on the “movement” part of the phrase. Celebration of labour itself often seems secondary to the celebration of unions as the institutional protectors of laborers and their labour. Excluded from unions when unions were first formed, Black labourers were denied the protection that unions afforded White laborers. The focus of this Labour Day Sunday (September 3rd) will be on the labour histories of a  select few Black people in the Hamilton area.
