When Mel Rutherford was asked to be McMaster’s first transgender department chair, he knew he had to say yes. He was called to serve his community in this role. He also knew that what the department needed was a values-based approach to leadership. Mel will tell us how, after a lifetime of separation of church and work, he brought his Unitarian Universalist values to his work community.
