ZUUMers & Boomers

Members of zuumers and BoomersZUUmer – A person, specifically a Unitarian Universalist, born around or before 1946, who is full of spirit and vitality.

Boomer – A person born during the post World War II “baby boom,” approximately between the years 1946 & 1964.

The ZUUmers and Boomers offer a variety of social activities on an ongoing basis.  These allow seniors to meet other like-minded members of the congregation, enjoy their company, and to participate with them in the many amenities offered in Hamilton.

A Planning Group, open to all, meets three times a year to plan, organize and evaluate events.  The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton allocates funds to assist in the running of the program.  A (senior) volunteer coordinates the program.

Drumming Circle

Anyone can drum.  Drumming appeals to our sense of rhythm.  Drumming gets us out of our heads.  It is a relaxing, meditative group activity.

Mindfulness Mondays

For those who’d appreciate an opportunity for collective quiet reflection in their week, The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton once again offers Mindfulness Mondays, an Insight Meditation group that meets every second and fourth Monday starting at 2:30 p.m.

These sessions are led by Melanie Schwindt (she/her), a graduate of the University of California’s Greater Good and Science Department at Berkley and an instructor at Mindfulness Hamilton.  Melanie strives to meet people where they are physically, emotionally, and mentally, offering tools and practices that can assist us in navigating the challenges we all experience in life.

Mindfulness Mondays – 60 minutes in length—provides time for guided gentle movement, meditation, quiet reflection and some group discussion.  Chairs are provided.  Should you prefer to sit on the floor, please bring your own meditation cushion, yoga mat or blanket.

Meets @ 2:30 p.m. on:

  • Sept. 9th and 23rd
  • Oct. 14th and 28th
  • Nov. 11th and 25th
  • Dec. 9th

Should you have any questions, contact Louise McKinney (she/her), who is co-facilitating.
