****POSTPONED UNTIL JANUARY 2023****
Event date: Tuesday November 29, 2022 at 7:00 pm at The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton
During this fall’s municipal election campaign, candidates gave unprecedented attention to the crisis of affordable housing and homelessness.
On November 29, in our sanctuary, your Affordable Housing Team will host a panel of experts, including Indwell’s Graham Cubitt and Good Shepherd’s Katherine Kalinowski, to talk about what it will take—policies, processes, land, money, etc.—to turn the candidates’ commitments into affordable housing solutions and to move toward ending at least chronic homelessness by the city’s target date of 2025.
We will also explore the impact of two key provincial decisions made after the election,
- the introduction of Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act, and
- the overturning of Hamilton council’s decision not to expand into the countryside around Hamilton.
We will be working with the Outreach Team of St. Paul’s United Church in Dundas, which is also focusing on housing and homelessness, to create this event.
