Choirs
Sunday Choir
The choir has both a social and spiritual function. Socially it allows space for us to interact in a way that requires the seven principles to be present in our mind and behaviour. Members are diverse in experience, skill and talent and as such requires us to be respectful of what gifts each of us offers. We must be respectful, open teachers and learners in order to achieve our best. The music we sing offers both spiritual and humanist themes and reminds us to keep trying to be our best selves. Through choir we attempt, with other leaders, to create meaningful and spiritual moments for our congregation in both church services and other choral events.
– Cindy Carey, Choir Director
The choir sings about one Sunday every month. We rehearse every Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00.
We sing a wide variety of musical styles, origins, cultures and arrangements. We welcome anyone who is interested, from youth and beginners to wise and experienced. Come and join the choir, you will be glad you did!!
Given COVID-19, we meet virtually via Zoom. Please contact Cindy or Rachel if you are interested in joining us!
Spirit Song Threshold Singers
In November 2019, Spirit Song formed as a threshold singing group and became part of the Community Spiritual Care Team at Hamilton Health Sciences. Although most Spirit Song singers are members of First U Hamilton, the group is open to the community. The singers look forward to resuming weekly visits with palliative care patients at St. Peter’s Hospital once the COVID-19 pandemic ends. Please contact Beverly Horton if you are interested in joining.
