Climate Action
The mission of the Climate Action Team builds on the mission of the Church, and supports the Mission by developing and maintaining climate action programs for the congregation. The aim is to increase congregants’ awareness of climate change and to facilitate their participation in activities that address mitigation and adaptation to the impacts of climate change, through the lens of the Eighth Principle.
The Climate Action initiative is in its initial stages of development. Connections have been made with UU Ottawa to learn from their well -established plan. Members of the UU Hamilton Climate Action team have been participating in a number of advocacy groups including Hamilton 350, Action 13, ECO Locke, Elders for Social Justice and SCAN to learn what others are doing to address climate change challenges.
Underpinning this initiative is the principle of inclusivity and an understanding that each person may participate according to his/her/their own interests, values and abilities.
