What benefits do you want from the LRT project?
The Social Justice Team and the Hamilton Community Benefits Network are holding an in-person community consultation on the benefits we’d like to see from the construction and operation of Hamilton’s Light Rail Transit.
The event is Wednesday June 22 at 6:00 p.m. in our sanctuary. To register click here.
Community benefits agreements are agreements made with organizations like Metrolinx to ensure that significant benefits flow to all residents from major infrastructure projects like the LRT. Benefits can include such things as local hiring and sourcing, apprenticeships, environmental standards, and contributions of money or land for affordable housing or other community amenities along the route.
The Hamilton Community Benefits Network was created to get community input to develop a proposed community benefits agreement that the city and Metrolinx must ultimately approve. Your participation can help ensure benefits consistent with our social justice focus areas become part of that agreement. Email housing@uuhamilton.ca or eshanmerali@hcbn.ca for more information.
