The Case for Co-ops, Tuesday March 15 7 p.m. on Zoom
Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, in talking about increasing the supply of rental housing, recently said, “I think now is the time for new energy in the building of co-ops.” Yes! New energy and, we hope, new money in this spring’s federal budget.
Co-operative housing provides mixed-income communities that are affordable because they don’t make profits and they are self-governed, so tenants have a say in how their community operates. New units would expand the options for affordable rental in Hamilton, where rents are soaring (see below).
We know senior city staff will be attending. Come out and learn more from representatives of local co-ops. Register by emailing housing@uuhamilton.ca
