Some of my fondest memories of volunteering at Eva Rothwell are days when Rev. Victoria was
cashiering. She had a magical effect on the clients and here’s my understanding of how she made such a difference.
First, she greeted each client like she was delighted to see them. Hi there! How are you doing today? Next, when they checked out, she shared in the fun of what they had found in their shopping excursion. Well, let’s see what you found today! Wow, great find! OR Sorry, you didn’t find just what you were looking for today. Maybe next week! Hope to see you then!
In summary, she treated each client with respect and dignity, exactly like a ‘with it’ store clerk would
treat customers on a shopping trip, sharing in the fun of acquiring some new clothes. I always felt like she was the rainbow in the clouds that were hovering over many of the clients who walked into Eva. I learned so much just from watching her.
