There will be a two-day celebration to mark the opening of the city’s newest affordable housing project, tomorrow, September 23 and Saturday.
There is a ribbon cutting at 3:30 on the Friday, following by a drumming ceremony at 4:30 and a barbecue, live music and tours at 5.
It’s all at The Oaks, 225 East Avenue North, which has 108 units of affordable housing, including 13 operated by Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing in the building called Ain-dah-ning (pronounced AH-da-ning). The name, chosen by Sacajawea, means “home within our hearts” in Ojibwe.
Saturday evening, at 7:30, there is a free concert featuring Juno-winning singer-songwriter iskwē, a Cree Metis performer currently living in Hamilton. She’s well worth catching in a live performance.
