Housing Team Members Joined Tenant Protest Over New Owner’s Eviction Notices

Three members of our Affordable Housing Team joined tenants at 103 Emerald Street South last Friday as they protested potential loss of their homes. Amanda Dick, who led the event, said the new owner, Endless Properties, issued N13 eviction notices to tenants in all 30 of the units, so renovations could be done. One resident, 87, has lived in the building for 54 years, another, 88, for more than 40, and a third for 38 years. All said they can’t afford to move. Several said they thought if they paid their rent on time, they’d be settled for life. Amada said they hope to be able to meet and talk with the landlord. The city’s bylaw on renovations could have helped but it comes into effect in January.
