The first Hamilton Alliance for Tiny Shelters cabin has arrived!
This is what a Hamilton Alliance for Tiny Shelters cabin looks like. The first one arrived at the front of the Anglican Cathedral on James North last week. Take a look when you are next downtown.
The cabin has been set up inside to suggest how the 8-foot-by-10-foot space might be used (see below).
Meanwhile, the HATS team continues to search for a site for the first 10 to 20 cabins—we are exploring several possibilities. We continue consulting with service providers and potential volunteers and have talked with three dozen people experiencing homelessness. Almost all said they would like to be a resident of the cabin community. Their ideas will shape the selection of residents and how the site will operate. We’re researching best practices with existing cabin communities in Canada and the U.S.
