Mass timber is increasingly being used in housing construction, not just for its environmental benefits but as smart business. A recent article in Sustainable Biz Canada, copied in the Real Estate News Exchange, noted 140 projects under construction or planned. Wood absorbs carbon dioxide that contributes to climate warming, while traditional materials like concrete or steel produce massive amounts of CO2 (steel at least can be reused). The National Building Code now permits mass timber buildings up to 12 storeys and the B.C. and Ontario codes permit up to 18. Construction is faster and, increasingly, mass timber is cost competitive. Read the article: https://sustainablebiz.ca/a-hugely-powerful-tool-mass-timber-moves-experimental-mainstream
