Nancy Shares about her Volunteer Experience

We asked Eva Rothwell volunteers to send in stories about their experiences at Eva Rothwell and received this story from Nancy Kumpf. Thank you Nancy!

Empowerment Squared is the organization in Hamilton that assists and supports newcomer families to give them the tools and opportunities to thrive and contribute to society. My friend Joana, who is the Manager of Community Development and Partnership of E2, messaged this question:

  • “I would love your advice on where can I go to help a mother and daughter who just landed in Canada yesterday get some winter clothes. They came with the clothes on their back and nothing more. The woman is a size 18 and daughter 12 youth.”

After messages going back and forth and sending a description of Eva, I later received this message from Joana:

  • “I picked up food, clothes and a gift card from the team at Eva Rothwell. They were so welcoming and kind. I just dropped everything off to the family and they are thankful and warm. Our team will help the mom register her daughter in school next. Twenty-four hours in the country and they feel loved and supported. It’s a good start.”

This is excellent community collaboration and reason to make one smile.
