Sacajawea’s New Building, Just Down the Street, Will be Beautiful

Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing held an open house on Monday (May 5/25) for neighbours of its latest project, which will be at 95 Dundurn South, just up the street from our church. Drawings displayed at the event, held in our sanctuary, showed a building that has parking, storage and equipment spaces on the ground floor, off Jackson Street (picture on the right) and then five stories of common rooms and apartments, with a mix of studio, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments. The building will provide affordable housing for Indigenous students at McMaster University and Mohawk College, including, in some cases, their families. The surface of the building will be partly wood, as shown in the image at left, and partly white panel, as shown in the image at right, with tree images on the white surface. About 30 residents attended the drop in. The project needs a few minor variances and then issuance of a building permit for construction to start sometime this year.
