Sacajawea’s Tenants Need You

In July, Sacajawea will welcome new tenants into two buildings that it will co-manage, including one at Indwell’s new project, The Oaks, shown in the drawing below. Sacajawea’s staff and board named the building Ain-dah-ing, which means “home within our hearts” in Ojibwe. Along with 180 Ottawa Street North, which will also open this summer, Sacajawea is taking on 25 new tenants, many coming straight from homelessness who will need everything to make their new unit a home.

Some congregants wondered if they could donate things instead of money and the answer is yes. Contact housing@uuhamilton.ca if you have any of the following in like-new condition that you could donate:

  • Dishes
  • Cutlery
  • Bed linens
  • Bathroom linens
  • Welcome baskets – cleaning supplies
  • Medicine baskets – traditional medicines
  • Small appliances
  • Furniture – pull out sofa, twin beds, small table and chairs
  • Plants?
  • Pots and pans
  • Hygiene packages – toiletries
