On Thanksgiving, as we prepare holiday meals for family and friends, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations directs our attention to food waste and its impacts. When food is wasted or lost through unsustainable practices, precious resources that could have been used to feed hungry people are essentially thrown away. This year’s International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste can and should be a call to action.
