Four years ago, federal funding got this 50-unit Hamilton affordable housing project built.
Today, lack of federal funding makes such projects impossible.
The YWCA’s beautiful Ottawa Street building provides affordable, accessible housing for 50 women. A $10 million federal commitment in 2019—almost half the total cost—made it a reality. Today, the same federal fund would provide only $1.2 million—just $25,000 a unit—and that kind of desperately needed housing project simply can’t happen.
We need Ottawa back in the game.
