March 12th Climate Update

“I know climate change matters but what can I do?”

Ever heard this question, or asked it yourself? Climate Scientist Katherine Hayhoe has 6 excellent answers.

  • 🗣️ Start a conversation about why climate change matters
  • 🤲 Join a climate action group to amplify your voice and others
  • 💰Consider where you keep and how you spend your money (including your credit card, retirement, and purchases)
  • 💡Spark ideas for change at work, school, church, or any other organization you’re part of.
  • ⏱️Hold politicians at every level accountable by voting and by telling them why climate change matters and what you want them to do about it (this includes showing up at town hall meetings!)
  • 🏡 Reduce your personal footprint and make your actions contagious by talking about them with people you know and encouraging them to do the same

Canadian polling results from RE. CLIMATE

While 42 per cent of Canadians say they think about climate change daily, they believe only 26 per cent of their neighbours do. This mirrors gaps in views on climate doom as well. Fewer than 12 per cent of the public believe it’s too late to tackle the problem, but they think nearly half of Canadians do.

In addition:

  • Seven in 10 feel pride in Canada becoming a renewable energy superpower
  • Sixty-five per cent want leaders to keep their promise to take more action on climate change.
  • Seven in 10 agree that Canada should regulate polluters causing climate change.
