Solutions to the housing crisis from across Canada: a film showing March 3 at the AGH
Thinking Beyond the Market: Rethinking Canada’s Housing Crisis is a documentary about genuinely affordable housing that your Affordable Housing Team encourages you to come out and see when it’s shown in Hamilton on March 3. It takes a cross-Canada look at the programs and projects that are already happening and creating a positive impact on addressing the housing crisis.
From using public land to build non-market housing in Kitchener and Whistler, and inspiring Indigenous-led projects in Vancouver, to strong tenant protections and rent control in British Columbia and Prince Edward Island, the examples featured demonstrate the many ways existing solutions are making a difference in communities big and small, today. Dr. Brian Doucet, housing researcher and associate professor at the University of Waterloo, directed this film to share solutions and deepen the conversations about how to make and keep housing affordable.
