Eva Rothwell Centre is Closed
We received notification that the Eva Rothwell Centre is closed as required by the Ontario Government and Public Health and cannot accept any clothing or food pantry donations. We don’t know how long this will be in place and, out of concern for those in need, we have set up an alternative option for donations.
Support The Hub, at 78 Vine St (at Park St. N.) in Hamilton (see their website: here) The Hub is a shelter offering support for the homeless and has increased its hours to accommodate the increase in clientele because of closures like the Eva Rothwell Centre. We have congregants who already volunteer or are donating food there, including the “Grow a Row” group giving vegetables in the fall. So, if you have winter coats and boots, we can donate them to the Hub until The Eva Rothwell Centre reopens.
Here is a list of items they can use:
- winter coats and boots
- donations of canned soup, chili, beans, which can be heated and served
- basic toiletries, underwear and socks – all sizes for men and women,
- mitten-hand & foot heating packets; men’s and women’s gloves; belts (mostly men’s),
- sleeping bags, blankets, knapsacks, unused shopping buggies (2-wheeler), unused suitcases.
- bus tickets.
How to Donate:
- Donate directly to the Hub between 5pm and 9pm. The Hub is located at 78 Vine St. Hamilton.
- Drop off donations at the First Unitarian Church, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday mornings from 9am-2pm.
